Cashew shell oil - potential supporting industry

According to Mr. Nguyen Thai Hoc, Chairman of the Vietnam Cashew Association, currently the daily life service production industry has developed strongly with its own independent position. In 2011, the country's daily life service production industry reached an output of about 80 thousand tons, of which 60 thousand tons were exported, earning 50 million USD.

* High economic efficiency Mr. Do Cao Nguyen, representative of Viet Trung cashew oil facility (Xuan Loc), said that in the past, the cashew nut production industry did not consider the value of cashew shells because this is a waste product after processing, usually only used as fuel. Since the advent of the consumer goods industry, cashew shells have become a valuable raw material. Therefore, the contribution of this new manufacturing industry is not only economic but also contributes to solving the problem of waste treatment.

Similarly, owner of cashew oil facility Nguyen Thi Nga (Xuan Loc) commented that more and more establishments and small businesses are interested in investing in the production of daily life services because the equipment lines for production are 100% domestic, so the investment capital is The investment is not too heavy but the economic efficiency is quite high. In addition, labor costs are cheap because a production line only requires a few workers, while market demand is large so traders often come to collect goods in person. Therefore, after a while, the facility boldly invested in more machinery, increasing output 3 times compared to before but still did not have enough goods to supply the market. Also according to Mr. Hoc, up to now the production output of enterprises has reached nearly 10 thousand tons/year, an increase of dozens of times compared to the day of establishment.

This is a valuable source of fuel in many industrial fields, such as: producing paint, anti-rust, glue, friction powder for making brake pads for motorbikes and cars... The export market has also recently expanded, Besides China, there is also the EU, Japan... In particular, China imports a large amount of consumer goods from Vietnam to refine into many other products for export with an economic value many times higher than crude oil, including: producing high quality adhesive materials, high quality paints, insulating materials, electronic product circuit boards, friction powder in the production of brake pads...

* Attract technology investment Vietnam's living services industry is expanding to attract investment to apply modern technology in production. In fact, some businesses have boldly bought technological lines to refine raw household products into many new products with higher economic value, such as: cardanol oil, friction powder. Typically, Thao Nguyen Co., Ltd. (Ba Ria - Vung Tau) invested millions of dollars in technology to distill cardanol oil from DVHD. This is a very necessary source of raw materials for important industries such as the production of anti-corrosion coatings in the mechanical and manufacturing industries; Producing high-quality anti-rust paint in the shipping industry. The owner of a daily life service production enterprise in Long Binh ward said that the enterprise has just put into operation a cardanol oil distillation line with a scale of 80 tons of raw oil/month.

The residue of cardanol oil during distillation will be produced as friction powder. These products have an economic value nearly twice as high as crude oil. The market potential of the new product is also broader because not only is it exported to China, but many customers from Japan and Europe have come to the factory to learn about the source of the product. Businesses can also exploit the domestic market more effectively. This business owner cited that friction powder is not only exported well, but the demand in the domestic market is also very high because Vietnam's automobile and motorbike manufacturing industry is increasingly developing. Therefore, in the coming time, businesses will continue to invest in more machinery to increase output 3 times compared to the present.
